The Nintendo DS was released in North America on December 2, 2004 and then in Japan on February 24, 2005. The DS code name was Nitro. Nintendo resigned the DS and released it on March 2, 2006 in Japan as DS Lite. It is a slimmer and lighter version of Nintendo DS. It came out in North America in June 2006. Nintendo first announced it November 2003. They said it wouldn't be a successor to the Gamecube nor the Game Boy. The DS features two screens. The bottom screen is touch-enabled. The original DS came in eight different colors throughout the different regions. The DS Lite has only four colors. The DS Lite has four different backlight settings and better sound. The DS Lite also has better battery capacity then the original. The Nintendo DS can play Game Boy Advance games. Nintendo decided not to include Game Boy or Game Boy color games. The Nintendo DS can also be used with Wii. The DS can browse the internet using a separate game cartridge from Opera. It went on sale in Japan in 2006. It was released on June 4, 2007 in the U.S. The has built-in wireless connectivity. This can be used to play games locally with other players or around the world. Wireless connectivity is also used in the Nintendo DS Opera browser. The DS isn't compatible with every wireless router. A computer USB add-on is available for connection.
