The game had 74 minigames and five different game boards. Players will be able to obtain hexes and place them on the board. Most of the game can be played using only one game card. Up to four players can play locally. This includes Party Mode, Minigame mode, and Puzzle Mode. The game doesn’t support the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection. The game received positive reviews. Reviewers weren't pleased with the lack of online play as well as the basic story mode. The game sold over 8 million copies.

Mario Party DS was the only Mario Party title for the DS. The game was
developed by Hudson Soft and published by Nintendo. The game launched
worldwide in November and December 2007. There will be eight characters to play from;
Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Daisy, Tood, Wario, and Waluigi.
