Yoshi’s Island DS was developed by Atoon for Nintendo. It was released in November 2004 in North America. This is the sequel to Yoshi’s Island that was released on the SNES.

Game play is much like the SNES prequel. Players now have five different babies for Yoshi to carry. Baby Mario allows Yoshi to dash and special M blocks appear. Baby Peach allows Yoshi to float and fly on wind currents. Baby Donkey Kong can grab and swing on vines and ropes. Baby Wario can attract metal. Baby Bowser can spit fireballs.

The babies and the Yoshis must save the trapped Baby Luigi who was taken by Kamek. Baby Wario and Baby Bowser abandon the others during the game.

The game sold 300,000 copies in Japan during its release week. The game received positive reviews.  It was praised for being true to the original but being new and different.  In overall, the game has sold over 2.81 million copies worldwide.
