
Super
Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS were published by
Nintendo.
Both games were developed
by Sora Ltd. and Bandai Namco Games.
The Nintendo 3DS version was released first in September and October
2014.
The Wii U version was released
in November 2014 in North America, Europe, and Australia.
It was released on December 6, 2014 in Japan.
Nintendo of America’s Club Nintendo gave members a chance to register
both the Wii U and 3DS versions to receive an exclusive CD of the music of two
games.
This would Club Nintendo’s
exclusive giveaway.
The two games have the most fighters than any of the previous games in
the series.
Several new characters
were added to the roster.
These
included Mega Man, Pac-Man, Villager, Rosalina, Bowser Jr., and Palutena.
Both games are compatible with amiibo.
Placing the amiibo on the left corner of the Wii U Gamepad will scan it
into the game.
The New
Nintendo 3DS was instantly compatible with amiibo while older 3DS consoles will
need an adapter to be released later in 2015.
The Wii U version features high-definition graphics.
With the power of the Wii U, a special 8-player mode was included.
This version however, can only be played local and not online.
This version feature the exclusive mode, Smash Tour.
Smash Tour is a board game mode that gives up to four players the ability
to assemble a team and triggers various battles and earn stat boosts.
Special Orders is a set of challenges given to players by Master Hand and Crazy
Hand.
Event Mode gives two players a specific set of challenges.
This version is compatible with the Wii U Gamepad, Wii Remote, Wii Remote and
Nunchuk, Classic Controller, Classic Controller Pro, Wii U Pro Controller, and
the Nintendo GameCube controller (with the use of a separate adapter).
The Nintendo 3DS can also be used alongside a copy of Super Smash Bros.
for Nintendo 3DS.
On June 14, 2015, Nintendo announced the addition
of Lucas, Roy (Fire Emblem), and Ryu (Street Fighter) have been added to the
roster of characters. amiibo for all characters in the game would be
released. Ryu comes with his own stage called Suzaku Castle. The
Miiverse stage was also added as well as the Dream Land stage from the original
Super Smash Bros. Additional Mii Fighter Costumes were also added.
These included Tekken fighter Heihachi serves as inspiration for one costume,
with additional costumes based on Isabelle from Animal Crossing,
MegaMan.EXE from Mega Man Battle Network, ZERO from Mega Man X, the Inkling Girl
and Boy and the squid hat from Splatoon. Youtube replays will be added in
the future as well as Tourney Mode.
The game was announced in 2011 but officially began development in 2012.
The game was revealed at E3 2013.
A playable demo was featured at E3 2014 and several Best Buy locations in
the United States.
Reviews for the Wii U version were positive.
The game was praised for its online experience.
It was also praised for its various modes and roster. As of
June 2015, the game has sold over 3.83 million copies.
