![]() Super Mario Land 3D was developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo. It was released in Japan on November 3, 2011. The release date for North America was November 13, 2011. The rest of the world got it days later. The game featured elements from 2D and modern 3D Mario games. Each course features 3 Star Coins. These are needed to unlock certain stages throughout the game. The game featured the return of the Tanooki suit from Super Mario Bros. 3 as well as new power-ups. These include the Boomerang Leaf and the Invincibility Leaf. The Invincibility Leaf shows up when a player has lost the stage five times. When a player has died 10 times, the player has the option of using a P-Wing to fly to the end of the stage. The Tanooki Suit operates different than it did in earlier games. Mario can only float for short distances instead of flying. The game received high praise from several sources. Some criticized the 3D mode of the game, saying it added nothing to the game. The game has currently sold 11.7 million copies worldwide. |
