Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS were published by Nintendo.  Both games were developed by Sora Ltd. and Bandai Namco Games.

     The Nintendo 3DS version was released first in September and October 2014.  The Wii U version was released in November 2014 in North America, Europe, and Australia.  It was released on December 6, 2014 in Japan.    

     Nintendo of America’s Club Nintendo gave members a chance to register both the Wii U and 3DS versions to receive an exclusive CD of the music of two games.  This would Club Nintendo’s exclusive giveaway.

     The two games have the most fighters than any of the previous games in the series.  Several new characters were added to the roster.  These included Mega Man, Pac-Man, Villager, Rosalina, Bowser Jr., and Palutena.

     Both games are compatible with amiibo.  Placing the amiibo on the left corner of the Wii U Gamepad will scan it into the game.   The New Nintendo 3DS was instantly compatible with amiibo while older 3DS consoles will need an adapter to be released later in 2015.

     The game was the fastest selling Wii U game to date in the United States with 490,000 copies sold in the first three days on the market.  The game has currently sold over 3 million copies worldwide.

    The Nintendo 3DS version features 3D graphics.  This version features Smash Run.  Smash Run gives players five minutes to increase their stats before a final random battle.

     On June 14, 2015, Nintendo announced the addition of Lucas, Roy (Fire Emblem), and Ryu (Street Fighter) have been added to the roster of characters. amiibo for all characters in the game would be released.  The Dream Land stage from the original Super Smash Bros was added to the game.  Ryu comes with his own stage called Suzaku Castle.  Additional Mii Fighter Costumes were also added.  These included Tekken fighter Heihachi serves as inspiration for one costume, with additional costumes based on Isabelle from Animal Crossing, MegaMan.EXE from Mega Man Battle Network, ZERO from Mega Man X, the Inkling Girl and Boy and the squid hat from Splatoon.  Youtube replays will be added in the future as well as Tourney Mode.

     Reviews for the 3DS version were positive.  It had been praised of its roster, improvement to game mechanics, and variety of multiplayer options.  It has been criticized for the lack of single player mode and latency issues during local and online multiplayer.  Report of players damaging their 3DS circle pads have been made.  As of June 2015, the game has sold 8,590,000 million copies since its release.
