Metroid: Samus Returns was a remake of the Game Boy game, Metroid II: The Return of Samus.  The game was developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo.  It was published by Nintendo.  The game was released on September 15, 2017.

     New features were added to the game.  Samus can now perform a melee counterattack.  She can also fire at any angle which wasn't available in the original game.  There were also additional features in the remake.

     The game was compatible with Metroid series amiibo.  Nintendo released two new amiibo alongside the game.  There were a new Samus and a Metroid amiibo.

     A special edition was released.  The package featured a reversible cover and a soundtrack CD.  A European version also included an art book.

     The game received positive reviews.  The game won the The Game Awards 2017 "Best Handheld Game".  As of August 2018, the game sold 470,000 copies.
