Fire Emblem Fates is a set of three games.  The role-playing games were developed by Nintendo and Intelligent Systems.  The game was published by Nintendo.  Birthright and Conquest were released in Japan on June 25, 2016.  They were later released in North America on February 19, 2016.  There were released in May 2016 in Europe and Australia.  Revelation was released as DLC on the Nintendo e-Shop the following month in all areas after the initial release.

The three games have different paths and experiences.  The games feature three difficulties; Normal, Hard, and Lunatic.  There are also modes on what happens to fallen characters during battles.

Birthright is highly suggested for players new to the series.  It features opportunities to earn extra gold and experience.

Conquest gives players limited experience and currency.  Conquest is the much harder version of the games.  There are additional objectives and battles have limited turns.

Revelation combines elements from the other two games.  It offers opportunities for gold and experience while providing varied objectives and strategic elements from Conquest.

The game was almost not made as Fire Emblem Awakening was planned to be the last game in the series.  Awakening was a worldwide success and led to the creation of Fire Emblem Fates.  The game was announced in a Nintendo Direct in January 2015.

Nintendo has released several DLC maps for the games.  Some of these maps have been free while others have to be purchased.

Each of the games received positive reviews.  The games were praised for the drama and characters.  Birthright was noted for its easier gameplay.
Critics found the story in Conquest more intriguing.  Revelation was praised for its story, gameplay, and variety.  Preorders for the special edition of the games were sold out in just one day in North America.  Nintendo created a second run of edition.  As of April 2016, The physical versions have sold nearly 2 million copies.
