Nintendo released the Nintendo 2DS on October 12, 2003.  The system retails for $129.99.  The system it's capable of playing all Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS.  The primary difference is the system is only capable of displaying the games in 2D.

The system has Wi-Fi support and also features Streetpass.  The system is geared towards younger children.  The system has only one speaker located on the left side.  The 2DS can still take 3D pics which can be viewed in 3D on a Nintendo 3DS.

The system is unable to close shut.  So therefore, the system doesn't have a power saving feature. Nintendo sells a carrying case to hold the system.
