The NES Classic Edition
(Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System in Europe and Australia)
is a miniaturized replica of the NES game console. The console will release on
November 11, 2016 in North America and Europe. The Famicom edition was released in Japan on November 10, 2016.
The console is based on software emulation for 30
built-in classic games. The list of games are the same for the North American
and Europe consoles. There are a few exclusive games for the NES and the
Japanese Famicom version. The console can't use original cartridges from the NES. The emulation
engine is newly designed for this console and has been praised for being
superior when compared to the Wii U's version.
The console comes with one controller and additional
controllers can be purchased. The controllers are compatible with the Wii and
Wii U consoles to play classic NES games on those consoles. Additional
controllers can be purchased for around $10 each.
The Japanese Famicom edition's controllers are
hardwired into the console like the original Famicom. The controllers and wires
are also mini and shortened to reflect this.
The system features HDMI output. The games are all
based on their North American versions and will run at 60Hz in all regions. The
console's interface has 8 different languages but the games will continue in
their original language.
