The Game
Boy Advance was the last Game Boy variation made by Nintendo.
There were three models designed of it.
The first one was released in Japan on March 21, 2001 and in
North America on June 11, 2001.
The Game Boy Advance was compatible with Game Boy and Game Boy Color games. This was accomplished by a co-processor made just for backwards compatibility.
The Game Boy Advance SP was the second redesign. It was released in Japan on February 14 2003 and in North America on March 23, 2003. This redesign featured a brighter screen. This design also featured a rechargeable battery.
Nintendo released the last version in September 2005. It was smaller than the first Game Boy Advance. This version no longer could support backwards compatibility. This version was released around the same time as the Nintendo DS and didnt sell well. The Game Boy Micro came in several colors and a faceplate could further change the color of the system.
Nintendo released a wireless adapter for the system. Only 20 games were released that used the wireless adapter. It came packaged with Pokemon Fire Red, Emerald, and Emerald version. Otherwise, it could be purchased for $20. The Game Boy Advance was able to connect to a GameCube console.
Nintendo released the e-Reader for the Game Boy Advance. The e-Reader would scan cards that contained codes. Classic games like Donkey Kong or Excitebike could be played on the Game Boy Advance. Games like Super Mario Advance 4 (Super Mario Bros. 3) and Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire had unlockable content.
The Game Boy Advance sold over 81.51 million units. Most of the units were Game Boy Advance SP units. The Game Boy Advance Micro only sold 2.42 million units. Game Boy Advance games will be available on the Wii U eShop.
