The game focuses on evil creatures called Tikis that hypnotize Donkey Kong Island animals.  After being hypnotize, they steal the Donkey Kong's bananas.

Many features of previous games were included.  Some of these features included swinging between vines, mine cart levels, and collecting bananas and letters to spell "KONG".

In multiplayer mode, two players take control of Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong.  Diddy Kong can jump onto Donkey Kong's back like in single player mode to allow Donkey Kong jump further.

The game received mostly positive reviews.  The game sold nearly 5 million copies since its release.

The game was remade for Nintendo 3DS.  The game featured 3D backgrounds.  The game featured two modes.  Original Mode was the same game as the Wii version.  New Mode introduced several new items to make the game easier to play.  It also featured an extra world with new levels that weren't present in the original.  This version has already sold over 750,000 copies.
